In-Game Settings (The Primary Method)
The most reliable way to control crossplay is through the game’s Universal Profile, which you can only access from the main menu.
Sometimes the in-game toggle doesn’t respond. In that case, you can adjust crossplay at the system level.
Xbox Series X|S
If you want to play a specific friend on a different console:
The most reliable way to control crossplay is through the game’s Universal Profile, which you can only access from the main menu.
- Go to the Main Menu – Make sure you are on the landing screen where you pick modes like Road to the Show or Diamond Dynasty.
Tip: Crossplay options often appear greyed out if you’re already inside a mode like Diamond Dynasty.
- Open Your Profile – Press Up on the D-pad to highlight your profile icon in the top-left corner.
- Toggle Crossplay – Inside your Universal Profile, you’ll see a Crossplay switch. Flip it ON to play across consoles or OFF to limit to your own system.

- Go to Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety.
- Select Xbox Privacy > View details & customize > Communication & multiplayer.
- Find “You can join cross-network play” and set it to Block (disable) or Allow (enable).
- PlayStation usually relies on the in-game Universal Profile toggle.
- You can also check Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy to ensure Crossplay game invitations are allowed if you want to connect with friends on other platforms.
If you want to play a specific friend on a different console:
- Add via MLB The Show ID – Both players must link their console accounts to a single MLB The Show account.
- Send an Invite – From your profile icon in the main menu, select Friends, search for their ID, and invite them to a Custom Exhibition or Co-Op match.
